How did your initial transformation change your life?

Since starting this journey with ATP it is a night and day difference from how I felt before - I feel fitter and healthier than I have ever been and most importantly I have reversed any signs of being pre-diabetic!

It’s given me permission to prioritize my health again which helps all aspects of my life; I can manage stress more effectively, I have the energy to spend better quality time with my wife and kids and I am able to stay more focused at work.

I also now understand my body a lot better. I am far more aware and conscious of what I eat and how this affects my body. I now have the tools to stay in shape year-round.

How have these changes affected your long term health as someone who was pre-diabetic?

Before my transformation last year my health, fitness, and nutrition had dropped very low on my priority list. Working out seemed indulgent when I had work to do, a living to make, and kids to raise.

Managing my blood sugar was critically important and the motivating factor in my wanting to make these lifestyle changes. When I found out I was pre-diabetic, it really shook me up and I decided there and then that I needed to make lasting changes if I wanted to live a long and healthy life and be able to spend quality time with my family.

There were three areas that I needed to focus on:

  1. I needed to change my diet and to stop eating the foods that were making me sick. As I learned at ATP, you can’t out-train a bad diet.
  2. I had to incorporate exercise into my daily routine a to help burn calories and help with my body both physically and mentally.
  3. I started fasting in order to re-sensitize my body's response to glucose.

With the help of ATP, I was able to do all those things. I’m extremely proud of having reversed my Type II Diabetes.

What elements were most valuable to you during your time at ATP?

One of the most valuable things I got from my time at ATP was the knowledge, expertise, motivation, and ultimately friendship from my coach Alex. When it comes to any aspect of my health, training, and diet I’m grateful to be able to turn to experts. I have full trust in their knowledge.

Aside from the quality of the coaches and their depth of knowledge, one of the things I most appreciate about training at ATP is the atmosphere. You feel so welcome every time you walk into the gym and it is such a great community and vibe to be part of.  Everyone is there to support you and celebrate your successes!

What key elements did you take away from your time at ATP?

I think the key element is knowledge.  Education plays a huge role in what ATP does. They are here to empower you with knowledge so you have the ability to sustain positive lifestyle changes. As a result of my time at ATP, I now feel confident to train properly and have the tools to stay in shape year-round. 

Jason's top 5 tips for staying in shape year round

  1. Consistency over Intensity

    There are days you might not hit the gym as hard as you would’ve liked and days where you are on fire. But the most important thing is to show up and put in your time - lowered intensity is better than no intensity!

  2. Walk!

    This is such an underrated activity that burns calories and keeps you healthy while forcing you to give your brain a break from work.

    Walking promotes metabolic health, reduces stress and gets you out in to nature, and if you're in the sun it raises your vitamin D levels which helps with your immune system and overall health.

  3. Build a routine you love!

    It’s so easy to fall off of a good schedule when you’re busy, especially if you're working from home. So open your calendar and schedule those workouts to break the day up. 

    For me personally, ensuring that I pursue a diversity of training methods and workouts maintains my interest and staves off boredom.

  4. Keep yourself motivated by setting goals!

    Just because you can’t go to the gym doesn’t mean you can’t get a great workout in at home. And nothing keeps you motivated more than setting a goal and seeing your progress, even if the goal is as simple as to keep up with your workouts consistently.

  5. Stay Accountable.

    Stay in touch with your personal training coach and others who are in the same boat and want stay on top of their training. We’re not alone and keeping an eye on each other helps all of us stay on track!
