Is working out with your partner the secret to getting in shape, staying in shape and staying together?

6 reasons why working out with your partner will transform your health and fitness:

We’ve had so many couples train with us over the years. And it’s easy to understand why. Once one partner starts to get in shape and prioritise their health the other partner will notice the tremendous benefits and want some of that for themselves. They’ll typically notice the improvement in their partner’s energy, mood and confidence before they do themselves and even before the physical changes are evident. Getting in shape and being healthy is infectious, and can improve the health of your relationship not just your body. There are also a lot of other benefits to both committing to the same journey:

  1. A shared lifestyle

Your daily routines will complement each other. You’ll have the same  priorities, same pressures and you’ll adopt similar sleep and wake times. It is much easier to implement the same pre-bed routine when you’re both trying to make healthy changes.

Adopting a healthier lifestyle together extends beyond just exercise. Couples can also support each other in making nutritious food choices and prioritizing self-care habits.

“IT FEELS LIKE WE HAVE BUILT SOMETHING TOGETHER AND WE HAVE A MUCH HEALTHIER LIFESTYLE AND A COMMON GOAL TO WORK TOWARDS.”

  1. Simpler meal prep

Meal prep can be done for two- it’s always easier to stay on plan when you’re both eating the same meals. Staying on a plan is much easier when you know that your significant other is making the same sacrifices alongside you.

  1. More quality time together

Whilst you’ll be working out individually, with your own coach and often at different time slots, you’ll no doubt end up end up chasing extra steps to hit your activity goals for the day. For a lot of our couples what this looks like is spending better quality time together on a relaxing evening walk. When we’ve spoken to clients this is often one of the aspects that they’ve most enjoyed and it has dramatically improved their lives.

A daily evening walk is fantastic for relaxation, it stimulates the para-sympathetic nervous system, provides some low impact cardiovascular stimulus and an opportunity to detach from work, social media and mobile phones. We also get a lot of feedback that couples really enjoyed the new sense of connection that they get from walking together and unpacking the day rather than simply chilling out on the sofa.

“WE LEARNED TO EMBRACE A NEW LIFESTYLE, A HEALTHY LIFESTYLE. I THINK THAT WAS SOMETHING THAT WE THOUGHT THAT WE ALWAYS EATING RIGHT OR WE TRIED TO GET THE RIGHT FOOD. BUT I THINK JOINING ATP WITH THE EXPERTISE, THEY TAUGHT US ALL THE RIGHT THINGS.”

  1. Shared goals

Working towards fitness goals together creates a sense of partnership and teamwork. Couples can celebrate milestones and achievements together, fostering a sense of unity.

  1. Mutual motivation

We’ve seen amazing success rates with clients who are couples. All of our clients achieve amazing results, however with couples we are at 100%. Not only do you have accountability to your coach but you have accountability to each other. Couples can motivate and encourage each other to stay consistent with their fitness goals. Seeing your partner’s dedication can inspire you to stay on track as well.

SEEING FABRICE MOTIVATED, INFACT SOMETIMES EVEN MORE COMMITTED THAN I AM, DEFINITELY GIVES ME A PUSH AND WE ENCOURAGE EACH OTHER EVERY DAY. HE HELPS ME TO ACHIEVE MY GOALS AS WELL.”

  1. Long term health benefits

Investing in fitness as a couple can lead to long-term health benefits, reducing the risk of chronic diseases and promoting overall well-being for both partners.

“MY PARTNER JOINED BEFORE ME AND TOLD ME A LOT ABOUT IT, WHICH FIRST GOT MY ATTENTION. I SAW VERY NOTICEABLE AND FAST RESULTS ON HIM, WHICH WAS VERY ENCOURAGING.”
