A lockdown reset
Covid made 2020 a write-off, but at 40 it did one useful thing: it pulled Keen Meng out of the endless cycle of entertaining, overeating and over-drinking. Running 100km in June and living on salad brought him back to just under 77kg, close to his lowest of the decade.
At 40, I could finally get away from the cycle of entertaining, overeating and over drinking.Keen Meng
Why ATP
When commercial gyms reopened with clunky time-slot bookings, a friend mentioned ATP. Keen Meng met the head trainer, went home to check every claim against Google and YouTube, and when it all tallied he said: OK, let’s go.
I won’t be blowing 3k at Marquee anytime soon, so when someone told me about ATP I thought, why not.Keen Meng
The cut he did not expect
His coach pushed him to keep cutting toward 70kg when he had wanted to lean bulk. Sceptical, Keen Meng checked again with Google, YouTube and Instagram, decided the coach had a point, and committed. Three sessions a week, skinfold caliper checks, and a diet dialled in tighter than ever, with a few frustrating plateaus along the way.
Three times a week my coach kicks my ass. He watches my reps like a hawk and almost never misses a count.Keen Meng
Three months in he was pushing 70kg and surprising himself every time he passed a mirror. Even the abs turned up.
I think I’ve removed 20 years of diet and exercise abuse in three months.Keen Meng
Ready for 40 to 50
Looking back across two decades, alongside the career moves, marriage and kids, Keen Meng rates working with ATP among the best things he has done. He knows he could not have replicated the intensity alone, and the model kept supporting him through stress, food and the unavoidable nights out.
I feel ready for 40 to 50 now, and I’ve done something I couldn’t have imagined, let alone done, alone.Keen Meng
