39 year old mother of two Gigi came to ATP wanting to tone up and slim down. Her results surprised her in a positive way!

She’d had some success in the past by dieting alone but she was unaware of the synergistic effects of combining a healthy diet with weight training for women. By working with her ATP Personal Training Coach she learned how to exercise as well and it transformed areas of her life she hadn’t expected.

"So far I lost 18 pounds and 7% of my body fat. I feel great and I feel fantastic."

We spoke to Gigi’s ATP Personal Training Coach Brian to discover what challenges she faced along the way.

The greatest challenge working with Gigi was getting her nutrition right. Gigi had done a number of diets in the past: she’d tried a vegetarian diet, she’d tried intermittent fasting and she’d followed a nutritionist’s plan with some success.  However none of these previous diets allowed for any kind of social life or family commitments.

The challenge for me working together with Gigi was creating a plan which accounted for her social life and family commitments while still building in healthy, sustainable changes and new habits.

"I FEEL MORE ENERGETIC AND MORE ENTHUSIASM IN MY LIFE."

Coach Brian, how did you approach Gigi’s nutrition plan?

We actually went with a really balanced approach – to help manage appetite while supporting lean body mass we increased her protein intake. Each meal we aimed for a decent portion of protein typically from meat and we used protein shakes to add an easy and delicious protein boost.

We didn’t eliminate carbs- instead we simply set a daily target and avoided sugar and non-nutritive sources- instead we focused on fruit and vegetables with the occasional serving of rice.

"I LOVE MYSELF MORE SO THAT I CAN TAKE BETTER CARE OF MYSELF AS WELL AS MY TWO KIDS."

What was your strategy with Gigi’s training?

We really pursued strength. We’re still working towards a full chin up as a longer term goal but she has gone from being barely holding onto the bar to multiple controlled reps lowering herself down in 15 seconds. In addition to the strength gains she was able to dramatically lower her resting heart rate by 20 beats per minute.

How would you compare yourself on day 1 to now, in terms of fitness, mindset, physique, and health?

My training has been a journey to learn how to love myself more, and I’ve learned how to better manage my life, how to prioritize my worth, my time. And if I love myself more, I can definitely love my family more and then be more positive.

I’m more energetic and more enthusiastic towards them and they handle their demands better.
