Keen Meng had a clear vision about what he wanted to achieve and ATP made that vision a reality.

12 weeks of hard work has created a dramatic transformation backed by the knowledge to sustain it.

At ATP we care just as much about how long your results last as how long it takes you to achieve them.

Keen Meng has turned what he thought was an unattainable physique into his new normal.

What made our service stand out from other options?

Before I joined it wasn’t very obvious to me, but talking to Pete Fisher, the Gym Manager, gave me confidence that the gym understood the concept of fast but sustainable change, as well as having fantastic knowledge about every aspect of fitness, from performance and  biomechanics to body re-composition and nutrition.

After joining, I realised that the gym has a lot of specialist equipment chosen to compliment the traditional strength training that I was familiar with and allow newer clients to build strength sustainably without running the risk of injury. There is also an incredible range of dumbbells that set ATP apart from any commercial gym you can go to.

"THE EFFECTS SPILLOVER INTO DAY TO DAY ENERGY AND A STRONGER IMMUNITY TO MILD COLDS AND ILLNESSES. I'VE NOT HAD SINUS EPISODE FOR MONTHS NOW, AND IT'S PROBABLY TO DO WITH THE OVERALL CHANGES MADE."

Why did you decide that now was the right time to get started?

The idea of returning to a commercial gym post the lockdown was not appealing as it entailed slot bookings and uncertainty around training timing. I was referred by a friend who had trained at ATP for about a year and had only good things to say about training there.

There was also a small window of opportunity before business resumed fully to quickly reset my body composition and therefore I decided the time and ATP was the right opportunity to take.

How would you compare yourself from day one to now, in terms of fitness, mindset, physique and health?

Fitness wise: I’ve somehow managed to get in better shape than I was body composition wise than I was when I was 20.

Mindset: I’ve gotten used to the cost and understand that working with ATP and Coach Iskandar is a valuable investment for the speed and sustainability of the change. We go into a strength building phase next so this will be another interesting development.

Physique: I’m lean now and primed to take the next step.

Health: It’s quite amazing what happens when you drop body fat and learn to deal with your appetites plus have a useful strength base.

The effects spillover into day to day energy and a stronger immunity to mild colds and illnesses. I have not had a sinus episode for months now, and it’s likely to do with the overall changes made.

What would your wife say has been the biggest change in your lifestyle?

I eat more vegetables, and look completely different. I am a lot more careful about what I eat, but it’s a balance, and I learned to practice mindful eating. I do have huge meals occasionally as well. Just this week, Morton’s Lump Crab Cake, Porterhouse with truffle parmesan fries, Key Lime pie and Lava cake. This was one of only 3-4 big meals. Net change to weight/composition for the week? Zero. Mindful eating works.

What one thing would you recommend to someone who’s about to start their fitness journey?

Firstly: Join ATP. Second, listen to your coach! In my case Coach Iskandar made me aware of the possibilities and asked me to go further than I wanted and I’m glad I listened. The final piece of advice is very simple, buy an electronic scale. This simple tactic has helped me to stay accountable

"YOU STILL NEED TO DO THE WORK ON THE NON EXERCISE SIDE, BUT THE ATP MODEL IS THAT THEY SUPPORT YOU THROUGH YOUR DAILY CHALLENGES, STRESS, FOOD AND EVEN NIGHTS OUT."

What has surprised you about the process? How has the experience differed from your expectations?

I weigh a lot less than I had expected to. I did suspect I may have to get to this bodyweight to get to the composition I wanted but was hoping it would be a little higher. I have no regrets though.

Personal training is a difficult business for trainers and clients, but so far at ATP and with Coach Iskandar, I’ve had my best achievements in a relatively short time. He watches me like a hawk and never misses a rep count, which I need because some of the work is hard. I’ve had a go at the gym myself since and there is just no way I can replicate the intensity of the work that I perform when my coach is there. You still need to do the work on the non-exercise side, but the ATP model is that they support you through your daily challenges, stress, food or even nights out.

What do you wish you’d known when starting out?

Trust the process and commit to the changes. That 12-15 weeks will pass faster than you think (at times it will be tough) and you will end up at a point you couldn’t have imagined when you started.

Looking back at the last 20 years, apart from the career moves, getting married and having kids, working with ATP is one of the best things I have done. I feel ready for my 40s now and have done something I couldn’t have imagined on my own, never mind actually executing the plan.

Everyone would benefit from this experience! In your 30s you will arrest the decline that starts to set in. In your 40s you get to reset  back to your early 30s, in your 50s you will be building a foundation to enjoy the best years of your life.

“I have recommended this experience to many of my friends…
Make the time. Commit, and buy yourself an extra 10 years of quality of life.”
