Hyomi had always been slim but as she approached 40 she found herself neglecting her health and fitness.
Working with her ATP Personal Training coach, Hyomi was able to make dramatic changes. She lost 4 kilos whilst building a foundation of daily habits that placed health at the centre of her life.
What was your original motivation for signing up with ATP, and what’s your motivation to continue working with ATP?
I first heard about ATP from my friend who was going through her own life changing transformation.
I wanted to have greater control over my lifestyle, fitness, and physique. I am extremely pleased with the progress I have made over the past 12 weeks, and believe the best thing for me is to continue this journey together with the experts at ATP.
What challenges did you overcome at the start?
It was a little intimidating at first. When I saw the walls of before and after photos, I couldn’t imagine myself there. I thought that there was no way I could transform like that in just 12 weeks time. However, I surprised myself, I made it and that success means a lot to me.
Nutrition was also a challenge. It requires some knowledge, but more importantly discipline. The knowledge itself is not the difficult part, but keeping disciplined is challenging.
I have become much more aware of myself – what kind of food works for me and not, what foods add stress to my body and mind, and how I can deal with it more effectively.
How would you compare yourself from day 1 to now, in terms of fitness, mindset, physique and health?
I am definitely fitter, more confident, and feeling a greater sense of control over myself.
What do you think has been your greatest achievement since trusting ATP with your health and fitness journey?
I found a better way to relieve my stress from a stressful job than drink wine. Walking, jogging, strength training have become part of my daily/weekly routines now. I never imagined I could look forward to going out running and getting covered in sweat. Also, I am happier that I can spend more time with my two boys with outdoor activities and not getting tired so easily.
IT'S COMFORTING THAT I KNOW HOW TO DISTRACT MYSELF, IN A HEALTHY WAY, FROM MY HIGHLY STRESSFUL JOB. IT GIVES ME A BETTER SENSE OF BALANCE AND CONTROL.
How has this affected your work life balance?
It’s comforting that I know how to distract myself, in a healthy way, from my highly stressful job. It gives me a better sense of balance and control.
How has this affected those that are close to you?
My journey has inspired my two boys the most. When I was just about to start the journey, the lockdown happened. Therefore, my trainer came over to my home for home training and often my kids have seen me doing the exercise. As we all had to work from home and school from home in the past months, they have also observed me being more conscious on food choices and cooking methods. I am very glad that they look up to my healthier lifestyle and they are also became more aware of healthy life choices. On weekend morning, we all get up early and go out to park for running and Pokémon hunting before it gets too crowded and hot.
What do you hope to achieve personally, professionally by continuing on this health and fitness journey?
I’m turning 40 this year. Most of my friends have warned me that this is likely to be a year I start to see my health and fitness deteriorate, but I’m looking forward to being healthier and in better shape in the years to come.
With the increased energy and clear mind I get from focussing on my health, I hope to achieve even better performance in my investment profession as well which is often referred to as a marathon rather than a sprint.
What one thing you would recommend to someone about to start their fitness journey?
There are many ways to get healthier and fitter. However, for me, working with ATP has been the most efficient and effective way.
