Think of it simply as a necessary stimulus to provoke an action or response; in other words a factor that has to be present for change or adaptation to occur. For example, if you want bigger muscles, you need to create \u2018targeted stressors\u2019 (in this case it might be certain exercises) in order for your muscles to work harder, recover from that extra work and then learn to adapt for next time. In any situation, adaptation (and therefore performance at a higher level) should follow recovery, and recovery should follow stress:<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/section><section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-e69d160 elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"e69d160\" data-element_type=\"section\"><div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\"><div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-3679446\" data-id=\"3679446\" data-element_type=\"column\"><div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\"><div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-fbffee5 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"fbffee5\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\"><div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">Our bodies produce a stress response no matter what kind of stress we are under. It could be:<ul><li>Positive (thrill-seeking like skydiving, or the excitement of a tough physical workout or complicated mental debate)<\/li><li>Negative (worrying, feeling anxious)<\/li><li>Mental (relationship issues, personal obligations)<\/li><li>Physical (muscle damage, broken bones or sickness)<\/li><\/ul><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/section><section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-e4a4445 elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"e4a4445\" data-element_type=\"section\"><div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\"><div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-ee58d5e\" data-id=\"ee58d5e\" data-element_type=\"column\"><div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\"><div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-eb00cbc elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"eb00cbc\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\"><div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\u2026or it could be a combination of more than one of the above. The important thing to remember is that all stressors compete for the same resources within our body and we have only a limited capacity for recovery. Each stressor has a recovery period that we must respect in order to regain optimal health.<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/section><section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-a68d074 elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"a68d074\" data-element_type=\"section\"><div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\"><div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-0f94148\" data-id=\"0f94148\" data-element_type=\"column\"><div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\"><div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-530e73f elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"530e73f\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\"><div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">Our autonomic nervous system (ANS) is responsible for involuntary functions of the body and is split into 2 parts; the parasympathetic nervous system (PNS) and the sympathetic nervous system (SNS). Frequent or chronic stress is very bad for us, and can lead to a host of problems, including an increased appetite (and more cravings), poor blood sugar management, a reduction in sleep quality and increased inflammation in the body.<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/section><section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-239203e elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"239203e\" data-element_type=\"section\"><div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\"><div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-8802999\" data-id=\"8802999\" data-element_type=\"column\"><div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\"><div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-0bc5174 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"0bc5174\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\"><div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">Frequent stressors are those events which don\u2019t always last very long but which trigger your stress response on a regular basis. If you are continuously exposed to a stressor, your body will start to produce a low level of stress hormones. However, we should bear in mind that step 1 is not as simple as it might sound. There are some people whose personality type allows them to notice and speak freely about their feelings, so if you are one of these people you can move quickly to step 2. For some, however, personality or circumstances make it very hard for them to speak up or even recognise that they are experiencing stress. There are really only 2 options; one is to remove or eliminate the cause of the stress and the other is to improve our capacity to cope with it.<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/section><section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-bc1e090 elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"bc1e090\" data-element_type=\"section\"><div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\"><div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-2079ddc\" data-id=\"2079ddc\" data-element_type=\"column\"><div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\"><div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-0525a53 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"0525a53\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\"><div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">In many cases, it is not necessarily feasible to eliminate the stressor \u2013 as much as we might entertain the thought of leaving our jobs or moving to a desert island we all still have bills to pay and personal obligations to fulfil. However, there are many more cases in which we can make a huge difference in lowering the amount of stress we are under. Read a book instead of watching tv in bed, buy an alarm clock instead of using your phone alarm.<\/td><td data-label=\"Big change:\">No electronic devices or tv in the bedroom, bed by 10pm every night, even if it means postponing social events for a while. It doesn\u2019t have to be beautifully written; the more you do it the better at it you will become and the easier it will seem<\/li><li>Journaling has been shown to be associated with drops in depressions and anxiety and increases in positive moods, social engagements and the quality of close relationships<\/li><\/ul><p>Hobbies<\/p><ul><li>No matter what your hobby is, there are numerous benefits to having one!
